Now I am sure that you have heard of the expression – ‘A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing’. However, what if you reversed this principle, would it still make any more sense? ‘A lot of knowledge is not a dangerous thing’? Errr – not sure really – but maybe the guys and girls as GeekWorldRadio might know, huh?Coby CX90SVR Digital Pocket
So what is GeekWorldRadio all about then?
To copy and past straight off there website – www.geekworldradio.com is like nothing else that you have heared on the radio before. Broadcast on Indie 100 every Thursday and Friday at 12 noon (PST), listeners get the chance to hang
out with their zaniest geeky and irreverent friends, whilst at the same time giving
form to their own ‘inner geek’. Anime, video games, comic books, superheroes,
TV shows, movies, events, and general geek culture, Geek World’s weekly
conversations tangos in between the lines of everyday pop culture and esoteric
fan-boy trivia.
Moreover – it's fun too!
So how did all of
this begin?
Back in 2005, Geek World began in a small studio in Hollywood ,
CA – with a weekly show that attracted
the attention of listeners. Then, in 2009, AnnaMay and Dave moved the show to
the Burbank based indie radio
station 92.5 KYHY (now Indie 100) – where it continued to grow. And now, in 2011,
the show has begun syndicating to the East Coast based internet radio station –
The Point Radio.
Here, have a listen to this...
Here, have a listen to this...
So who are the member of the GeekWorld team?
- AnnaMay: (Mistress of the Dork) – Creator / Producer / Host – and basically every fan-boys dream-girl, with a heart of gold and a feller to match.
- Dave: (The Man Who Never Stops Talking) – Producer / Host – as well as a video connoisseur, who is one-half hat and one half-mouth.
- Darkubus Rybar: (The Correspondent) – Specialist / Friend – plus a knowledgeable conversationalist and contributor to the station.
- Geekin: (Minion) – unknown entity – whilst being an enigma wrapped in a illusions placed within a sesame seed bun.
But what does AnnaMay think about what I say, huh? Here, check out an interview I had with her on a astral cloud over the Mediterranean sea.
1) If you had to
compare your station with a piece of fruit, what fruit would it be and why? If
Geek World were a piece of fruit it would be The Miracle Berry (you know, that
fruit that makes sour foods taste sweet). We like to try and give a totally
different spin and flavor to everything we talk about. Often times we'll try
and make things like anime palatable and understandable to a general audience.
If we can make people think about things in a new way we've done our job!
The radio station we're on, Indie100, is kind of like a goji
berry. It's full of great stuff and you've probably never experienced anything
like it before. It's full of independent music so you're not stuck with the
same thing you get everywhere else and original talk shows that offer fun,
unique, and original flavor to your days.
2) What inspired you to become a radio personality in the first place? People used
to tell me that I had a great voice and should be on the radio which peaked my
interest, so it's something that was always in the back of my mind. I finally
decided to make it a reality when I realized there was not a female voice out
there talking about geeky topics. Most of the podcasts were done by guys and
the radio completely lacked geek shows. Superheroes, anime, comic books, video
games, etc... are really important to me, they are the topics that most of my
life centers around and I know that there are plenty of other girls out there
that feel like they have to hide their geekiness because they don't have a
voice out there telling them it's awesome to let your geek flag fly! So I
created Geek World because I had something to say and thought I could help
people bring out their inner geek.
3) And Dave? Dave had never really thought about being on the radio before, but
ever since I met him I knew that it was something that he should be doing
because he loves to talk. In fact, sometimes it's hard to get him to stop
talking. He also has a love of all things geek and has a great wealth of what
would otherwise be useless knowledge. Dave has a bizarre knowledge of movie
cast and crew and an uncanny ability for recognizing actors from stars to
extras.
3) Can you compare yourself
in either comic book or movie terms (i.e. characters), and tell me why this is
so? This is a tough one. I guess I would define myself as the DC Comics
character Zatanna (and not just because she has Anna in her name). The biggest
reason is because for Zatanna words hold incredible importance. When she speaks
it has great power and she tends not to speak unless she has something to say.
In addition, Zatanna has been known to be a great asset to the Justice League
because she can bring something unique to the group. Her magic is unlike the
typical powers of JLA members, and sometimes she uses it in creative ways that
allow her to solve problems in a way that are very out of the box. And even
though she has worked with the JLA she is not defined by the group. She is a
character that is full of mystery and intrigue and even though she has innate
magic she also makes it a point to constantly practice her craft. Plus, she's
able to get along with and relate to all types of people and creatures. Those
are the main qualities I relate to in the character plus I've been known to
speak backwards on occasion:)
4) Dave Again?
Dave? Well, I think I would compare him to the Shonen
manga/anime character, Naruto. First of all, he often speaks without thinking
which is part of his charm and endears listeners to him but also can get him
into trouble. He is goofy and can be a bit of a clown but he is also incredibly
determined and hard working. He has a great power inside of him that other
people can see but he doesn't necessarily see it in himself or know how strong
he actually is, but that power always helps him out. Like Naruto, Dave always
wants to make the people around him happy, both always try to build friendships
with everyone they meet. Naruto and Dave both follow directions but often end
up finding their own way to get things done. They can both get people to follow
them even if they don't exactly know where they are going. They are both silly
and fun loving but still have a tendency to try and carry the world on their
shoulders. Even so they both accept help and can be a great teammate even if
they tend to go off script leading to a much more interesting and exciting
adventure. All that and they both love Ramen!
So there you have it folks www.geekworldradio.com in a can. Give it a click if you are a fan of all things in geek-dome. Go on - they seem like a nice bunch, don't they?
