- Just before his death, he was rewriting a script called 'Noble Rot'.
- John made a 'cameo appearance' on 'Police Squad' - drowning whilst the end credits rolled. However, because he died a month or two before this episode was supposed to be aired, this clip was never shown.
- He was supposed to play the part of Peter Venkman in Ghostbusters - a part that Bill Murray eventually played because of John's death. Moreover, it is alleged to be believed that he was also meant to have the James Woods role in 'Once Upon A Time In America'.
