There once was a boy that was so super. That anybody who saw him went into a stupor. Take the Teen Titans for instance - they had no resistance - to a child who looks like Gary Cooper. Just ask, Writer: Scott Lobdell; Artist: Brett Booth; and Publisher: DC Comics in February 2012. Or don't.

So what’s the STORY morning glory?
In this all battle issue - entitled 'Over Before It's Begun' - we see N.O.W.H.E.R.E. agent, Superboy, fight it out with Red-Robin, Kid Flash, Wonder Girl, Solstice, and Bunker.

Now how does this battle play out, huh? Who is the chappy that gets' to kick in Superboy's face, as if he were a monkey ready from a banana-spilt? (I do not know what that means either).

  • Is it Kid Flash with his rapid fire-punches? No - I'm afraid not - and he is only saved from Supe's might due to Wonder Girls and Solstice's intervention.
  • OK, so what about Bunker then? Can he smack that ass? Err - fair dues, this purple poofter does get a good couple of licks in (excuse the visual imagery) - but no - Superboy bangs him into submission as well.
  • Well, what about Wonder Girl or Robin? Surely they can give Superboy a run for his money. Yes - they both do - though at the end of the day, Superboy does get the better of them at the end.
  • Oh! So what about Solstice? Is there even a point in mentioning Solstice? Yes - of course their is - because her words do touch a nerve within this 'Boy of Steel', just long enough for him to head-but her, and then tell N.O.W.H.E.R.E. to get stuffed.

To be continued...

What is the most memorable SENTENCE OR CONVERSTION spoken in this issue?
Now I am not sure why, but I liked Red-Robin phase when he kicked Superboy in the face and said to him 'You're gum on their collective shoe'. It's as though this statement was tinged with a hint of poetry underneath it.

What was the BEST thing about this issue?
I liked the incremental way how all of the heroes 'got at' Superboy mentally during their fight with him. I found that this did work within the confines of this battle focused tale, and made for the cliff-hanger to make since within the scheme of things - especially Solstice's inclusion.

What was the WORST thing about this issue?
I was not too sure why Red-Robin overpowered Superboy so easily in the course of their fight together. OK, I understand that Tim had some sort of power thingy hidden inside his suit. It is just that it did not feel right when the other more powerful heroes were kicked to the curb by Supe's so merrily.

What was the most CREATIVE thing about this issue?
STORY: The most enjoyable part of this story was the way that each hero niggled Superboy on a different level. This makes for a more relaxed and pertinent read, whilst at the same time adding a layer of exposition into the proceedings as well.

ART: I like Brett's art on this team book since its inception, and in this issue he has surpassed himself yet again. You see, it is very difficult to make a 'all fight' issue appear fresh and dynamic - but that is exactly whet Brett has done with his varied 'camera-angles' and differentiating compositions. I personally liked the splash page where Red-Robin was standing over Superboy the best.

If you had to CAST TWO CHARACTERS in this comic book, who would they be and why?
SUPERBOY: In his current incarnation, this Tactile Teen does look a bit like Joseph Gordon-Levitt from his time on the hit sitcom '3rd Rock from the Sun'. But without the hippy locks.

BUNKER: Tyler Posey from 'Teen Wolf' and 'Smallville' seems like a natural to play this Mexican personable purple guy. Correct?

If this issue had a MOVIE TAG LINE, what would it be?
When Titans Clash, N.O.W.H.E.R.E. talks trash.

If this issue were a MOVIE, an OBJECT, or a piece of MUSIC, what would that be and why?
Conceptually, this was a story where a bad-guy starts to realise that he could be a good-guy, right? And he is told this by someone who is on the side of the right, right? So what about 'Return of the Jedi' - where Luke tell his Daddy that he should be a nice daddy whilst smashing him in the face with a jumped-up torch?

FINAL thoughts...
Now the stage has been set so that this first Teen Titans story arc can finally unravel. Personally speaking, I am fairly happy with how this series is progressing so far - it has personality - it has pathos - and it has bad costumes too.

Still, you can't have everything, can you?
