PAPANOTZZI - THE COSPLAY PHOTOGRAPHERS

PapaNotZii - The Cosplay Photographers - Not Green Arrow Don't you just love the sight of a cosplay whenever you're loitering around a comic book convention? I mean, for me -- personally -- the sight of a buxom girl in a Powergirl outfit just make me want to pick up a camera and snap-snap-snap until the cows come home. Yeah! You too? Smashing. My great mate, Ed, thinks exactly the same thing. Here, check out this conversation we had only the other day, whilst moo-moo-mooing like a buxom girl with some real udder power.

1) What are your own origins, Ed? Plus what path did you take in life before you got to where you are today?   I was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. My mother grew up on the island of Pampanga, in the Philippines, and my father is from Ohio.

After high school I worked for a few years and am now in college. My interests are in computers, and at the moment I am majoring in computer information systems, yet my passion still lay in photography.

2) In your own words how would you describe ‘Papanotzzi’?   Papanotzzi is a photography group dedicated to conventions. As convention photographers, we do our best at capturing the skill and creativity of the convention itself; as well as the attendees that are dressed in there favorite cosplays.

3) What have you and learned about yourself via this endeavor? And were there any unforeseen obstacles you had to content with?   One task that I have learned is to coordinate a photo shoot properly. Also, I will do as much as possible to get the photos that I imagine.

I can only recall one instance that was unforeseen really, which was when I was in the middle of scheduling a photo-shoot downtown . I needed an area for my models to change outfits, so I contacted a nearby hotel that I thought could help. I never got a manager after calling multiple times. The other ideal location was the convention center itself, which I was transferred four times and then hung up on twice.

4) If ‘Papanotzzi’ was a song, what song would it be and why?   If our name was a song it would have to be 'papanot-zzi style' -- modeled after “Gangnam style” from PSY. Not only because the song is very memorable, but also because it is the most viral song / video on the internet.

5) What was the best convention you and your team ever shot at?   The best convention hands down is 'Dragon*con' held in Atlanta, Georgia. This convention consists of five host hotels with a huge base of guest attendance. Some of the costumes people develop for 'Dragon*con' are tremendously detailed and elaborate. With the downtown area being over populated at times with cosplayers, every step is a new scene of photos ready to be captured.

6) If you could get a celebrity – either living or dead – to promote your site, what person would you get, and why would you want to choose this particular person?   The celebrity I would chose is Tom Hanks. He is an amazing actor, producer, and screen writer. Almost every role he has taken has captivated and moved millions. I hope to move an audience with my photography, and inspire some to pick up a camera and capture photos that are unique and to share.

7) If a film was ever made about ‘Team Papanotzzi’, what actor would play you?   Ken Jeong

8) During your time in this field, what piece of advice would you want to impart on a fellow photographer?   It is always good to know how to use lighting sources, accessories, cameras, etcetera-etcetera-etcetera. Also, think about how you are going to frame your photo when you take them. Just as long as you capture the image you want, and translate it to your own artistic outlook, you have achieved your style in photography. Furthermore, don’t stop once you found your style. It is like any other skill, it takes practice.

Yep! Very well put, Ed. As I'm sure my readers can clearly see from your amazing photos, Papanotzzi is well worth a visit. So go ahead! What are you waiting for, folks? Click-click. Tweet-Tweet. Face-Face. Plus please check them out on Pintrest and Esty too. Trust me. You'll get a right kick-kick out of their Snap-Snaps.
