COMIC BOOKS TAKE CENTRE STAGE AT SHROPSHIRE'S LARGEST MUSIC FESTIVAL

The Shrewsbury Fields Forever Festival Thousands of music-lovers everywhere will be flocking to 'The Shrewsbury Fields Forever Festival' this year, and they'll be camping out whilst listening to some of the top names in Alternative and Dance music, including 'The Happy Mondays' and 'Wretch 32'. Since it was established five years ago, this award winning event has become increasingly popular. So much so, they've even embraced a full comedy festival on the Sunday, and now, for the very first time, it presents a brand new International Comic Art Festival celebrating the wonderful diversity of the medium of comics and graphic novels.

Forbidden planet

The comic festival will be situated at the heart of the main festival (within the prestigious Quarry Park venue), and will feature a program of inspirational events hosted by many of the star guests, including talks, workshops, master classes, panels, as well as exciting live art exhibitions.

In addition to this there will also be a huge marquee rammed full of comic publishers from all over the UK, helping festival goers discover the full breadth of the medium of comic art, from the smallest self publishing creators to the largest independent and professional businesses.

The Art Of Howard Chaykin
All genres will be represented here, ranging from the expected superhero genre, to sci fi, to horror, humour, more mainstream crime, action, and drama titles that many visitors may be discovering for the first time.

It’s about time Shrewsbury had its own Comic Festival”, said show organizer, Shane Chebsey “and what better way to bring comics to the masses than via the county’s most popular music festival. It’s a match made in heaven… geek heaven”!

Some of the international creators in attendance will include legendary American artist, Howard Chaykin (made famous for illustrating the first ever comic book adaptation of 'Star Wars'), Jason Starr (who has written for such Marvel books as 'Wolverine' and 'The Punisher'), plus Goran Parlov (Croatian creator best known for his outstanding work on 'Nick Fury').

Of course no international festival is complete without representation from the huge swell of talent from over here in the UK, which includes Marvel and DC artists Doug Braithwaite and Barry Kitson, local creator Dan Berry, plus legendary 'Judge Dredd' co-creator John Wagner who appears as the inaugural event’s local guest of honor.

In total there will be about 20 professional creators in attendance acting as special guests. So go on, what are you waiting for? Book your tickets for 'The Shrewsbury International Comic Art Festival' today. As you know, it'll be held at the Quarry Town Park, and begins on the 15th of July and ends on the 17th. Gates open at 12 noon each day and tickets and information can be found online at www.smallzone.co.uk
