Second SealNow I know this might sound like a silly question, but why do zombies want to eat after they died? After all, it's not like the actual process of eating something will somehow manage to sustain their life, especially since they haven't got one. Oh! Wait a minute. I know who might be able to answer this question. My mate Will. He's created a comic book about man eating.... Aggggghhhhhhhh!

1) What are your own origins, Will?   I'm from a quaint suburb north of Dallas, Texas, called Plano. Whereas the artist, Mat, lives in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Second Seal
2) What inspired you to create, ‘Second Seal’?   Our inspiration derives from multiple sources, such as: the devolution of society, biblical texts (the 7 seals), the struggle of ones personal anguish, and a view of a culture from its lowest class citizens. I've also been inspired by novels, documentaries, and classes based around ancient warrior cultures. Comics like 28 Days Later and The Walking Dead have been my all time favorites to read. It's an interesting concept to see how one man treats another when the animal instinct of survival takes over; It's truly brilliant.

3) In your own words how would you describe this story?   Second Seal is a 24 page, fully colored Sci-Fi action comic that takes place 18 years after Tokyo built a wall and closed its gates to society after a viral pandemic plagued the earth. The city plunged into an era where the strong feed on the weak and warlords rule.

Basically, this story begins with a young geisha who's mind has always been filled with dreams of adventure, and what truly lies beyond the wall's of the crime ridden city of Tokyo. It's said only the warrior cutlers of the world survived after the earth was filled with dead souls, or not so dead, depending on how you look at it.

4) What song would you say best represents this comic and why?   'Stairway to Heaven' by Led Zeppelin. Even though the concept isn't what the songs about, when I first herd it; there was a flow of emotion. The idea that nothing is as it appears, the idea of dreams are a commodity, death is the outcome of all life but ones road can always be changed in life. That's the beauty of music, it's not always about what the artist is trying to say its more about how its interpreted, much like the comic we are creating.

George A Romero
5) If you could get a celebrity – either living or dead – to promote your wares, who would you choose, and why would you want to choose this particular person?   George A Romero. It's brilliant to believe a man could have such an influence on a culture through the means of cinema. It was his thoughts and ideas that gave breath to the Zombie / Ghoul horror sub-genre, making it more mainstream.

6) What have you learnt about yourself through this endeavour?   It's clich√©, but that if you believe it you can achieve it. We never thought we'd ever see our work brought to a visual and captivating understanding. Seeing day after day your thoughts being built into art and understood by others without even the concept of words being used is unbelievable. Mat, as an artist, is truly a master of his craft. We would never be able to produce such a wonder without his talents.

7) During your time in this field, what is the one thing that has kept you in good stead?   Fans and followers. It all really began with the launch of our Facebook page. Even if its a small following of about 160, they are the ones that drive us. Just one person believing in your goals and accomplishments is enough to drive a person, and knowing we have 160 is mind blowing. They're support is the foundation we build upon; we've held raffles to turn our ever loving fans into zombies and even incorporate them into our work as a thank you.

8) If ‘Second Seal’ had a motto, what would it be?   When the streets run red with blood, will you stand your ground and fight, or run and live to see another day.

And on that ghoulish note, I'd like to thank Will for telling us about his comic, Second Seal, before directing you towards his official facebook page.
