ARROW VIDEO TAKES A STAB AT BEING SINFULLY COOL

Vincent Price Art Strapped down firmly into his harness, the creature, the poor malformed and hideous looking creature, yells out in anger, pain, and despair, hoping that the heavens above would be able to free him from his confinement. But no, no they don't. If anything, the opposite is more true. As suddenly a torrent of lightning and thunder rages all around him, while the harness he's strapped into, rises, rises, rises, slowly up against the walls of the mad professors laboratory. When it eventually reaches the top of the tower, the creature yells out one last time, this time followed by a cryptic message passing through his lips, 'Arrow Video have released some really great films this month', and with that, BANG! Thunder strikes.

Willie Dynamite
Willie Dynamite

Who is Willie Dynamite? Why he’s the flashiest pimp in New York, of course, who drives a personalized purple-and-gold Cadillac and wears some of the most eye-catching outfits ever seen on a cinema screen. He wants to be number one, but with the police, the D.A., his fellow pimps, as well as a tough-talking social worker hot on his tail, can a man as arrogant and amoral as Willie D avoid a downfall?

Willie Dynamite competes with the best of blaxploitation on all levels. Roscoe Orman dominates with his central performance, which is a star turn that’s the equal of Richard Roundtree in Shaft or Pam Grier in Coffy. Multi-award-winning director Gilbert Moses balances action and social commentary as deftly as Gordon Parks Junior did with Super Fly. Plus the score by J.J. Johnson featuring Motown legend Martha Reeves is as catchy as anything composed by Isaac Hayes, Curtis Mayfield, or, dare I say it, James Brown.

Tower of London
Tower of London

Having made their mark on American horror with three colorful films based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe, namely, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Pit and the Pendulum, and Tales of Terror, both Vincent Price and director Roger Corman enjoyed a brief hiatus from the macabre with this movie, Tower of London. Shot in black and white, the story was loosely based on the Universal horror picture of the same name as well as two plays by Shakespeare: a dash of Macbeth and a dollop of Richard III.

Price plays Richard of Gloucester, brother to a dying king and eager to take his place on the throne. However, when he is overlooked in favor of their sibling, the Duke of Clarence, things take a murderous turn for the worse. Richard goes on a murderous rampage, only for the ghosts of those he has slain to return from the grave and haunt him.

Less well-known than the Poe movies, Tower of London is no slouch. Price relishes the opportunity to flex his Shakespearean muscles, just as he would eleven years later with Theatre of Blood, and Corman really works wonders, as usual, with his low budget production values.

We Are The Flesh
We Are The Flesh

By the Oscar-winning Mexican directors of The Revenant and Gravity, We Are The Flesh is that rarest of beasts: an intelligent, beautifully-crafted art house film that is also provocative and deeply disturbing.

A young brother and sister, roaming around an apocalyptic city, take refuge in the dilapidated lair of a strange hermit. He quickly puts them to work building a bizarre cavernous structure, where he acts out his insane and depraved fantasies. Trapped in this maddening womb-like world under his malign influence, eventually they find themselves sinking into the realms of dark and forbidden behavior.

Visionary, unrelenting, and certainly not for the prudish or faint-hearted, We Are The Flesh is an erotic inferno of the senses that manages to pack all manner of delirium into its short running time, including incest, necrophilia, and cannibalism. This is extreme art cinema at its boldest and most taboo-bustingly bizarre.

Hellraiser: The Scarlet Box Limited Edition Trilogy
Hellraiser: The Scarlet Box Limited Edition Trilogy

Stephen King was once quoted as saying: "I have seen the future of horror, and his name is Clive Barker". Eventually that future became a reality when, in 1987, Barker unleashed his directorial debut with Hellraiser, launching a hit franchise and creating an instant horror icon in the formidable figure of Pinhead.

Barker's original Hellraiser, based on his novella, The Hellbound Heart, follows Kirsty Cotton (played by Ashley Laurence) as she comes head-to-head with the Cenobites -- demonic beings from another realm who are intent on reclaiming the soul of her deviant Uncle Frank. Then picking up immediately after the events of where the original Hellraiser left off, Hellbound: Hellraiser II finds Kirsty detained at a psychiatric institute and under the care of Phillip Channard, a doctor who abuses his position to realize his own dark aims. In Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth, a reporter investigating a mysterious death at a nightclub finds herself in the way of Pinhead and the Cenobites, who plan to bring their horrifying world into our own.
