WHAT STAR WARS CHARACTER DO YOU ENJOY DRESSING UP AS?

Darth Vader Every time I go to a costume party I always end up dressing like a character featured in the popular science fiction flick, Star Wars. I wonder why that is though? I mean, it's not like I'm the type of person who yearns to immerse himself into that particular film-franchise. Or for that matter, Star Wars isn't the type of film that I always conform to.

Star Wars

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say that I wouldn't enjoy watching a good, melodramatic, lightsaber battle between Obi Wan Kenobi and a notable Dark Lord of the Sith! It's just that I'm not really a sci-fi person, per se. Well, I don't think I am, anyway. Although, come to think of it, I have been known to vocalize silly sound effects while giving someone a jolly good thrashing, especially if I thought they rightfully deserved it.

Still, having said all that, the question remains: Why do I always dress up as a character from this popular brand of movie? Maybe there's another side to me that I don't try to acknowledge? A side which feels a lot more comfortable in the future than I do in the past.

Obi Wan Kenobi and Droids
I remember last summer, during a cousin's 30th birthday party, where I decided to dress up as Darth Vader and clumsily walk around telling people that I was their father. Yet, while I was doing this, a strange feeling came over me, a feeling that overemphasized the power behind my actions! Honestly, it was almost as if I was channeling the spirit of the late, great, Supreme Emperor Palpatine, every time I would menacingly stare at a passerby. Heck, on one occasion, my stare was so ferocious that my Auntie Nina accidentally dropped a tray of drinks onto my Uncle Chris. He didn't mind though. The drinks were alcoholic and so was he (if you get my gist).

A year before that I was fortunate enough to attend a friends funeral dressed up like Yoda, albeit a much more taller version. Printed upon the invite, sent to me in the post, it stated that those in attendance should wear something the dearly departed really enjoyed partaking in (such as a hobby or a noted pastime). So, as I knew he was a big fan of this diminutive Jedi Master, I took it upon myself to pay my respects as the wise one himself. Thankfully my get-up received a fairly good reception while I was at the service. So good in fact, that a couple of pallbearers wanted to bury me with my dearly departed friend (it must have been something to do with the green skin).

ChewbaccaOf course I could go on with this, and tell you about some of my other experiences in costume, such as that time I dressed up as Luke Skywalker for my graduation ceremony, or better yet, when I wore my Obi Wan outfit while christening my niece. But, if I did that, I still wouldn't be able to answer my initial question. Why-oh-why-oh-why do I enjoy wearing Star Wars themed costumes?

I suppose deep down I'm just the type of person who likes what he likes without trying to justify it to oneself. Sometimes that's just the way some people are built, isn't it?  We like what we like because for some reason we really-really like it. After all, we don't always need a reason to behave or dress in a certain fashion. Just as long as we don't harm those around us and obey our Jedi doctrines, hey, that's all that really matters.  Spread love, not war, even if you're doing it dressed up as Chewbacca.
