THE PLANET OF NERDS - SAY NO MORE

Stefania AmoreAre you the type of person who doesn’t give a toss about the mainstream media? Well, if so, then please allow me to introduce you to a lovely lady named Stefania Amore. Or as I like to call her, my favorite 'Northern Nerd', who along with her friends, runs a great channel on YouTube called, 'The Planet of Nerds'. Want to know more? Then check this out...

1) What are your own origins, Stefania?   I come from a loving Italian family that still lives in the Northern part of England, but unfortunately, had a difficult time growing up because I was bullied a lot at school for being different. So, just like most troubled nerds, I would bury my head in things like Harry Potter, Zelda, Disney movies, the original Power Rangers, and shows from Nickelodeon, etc, etc, etc, until I eventually ended up studying for a degree at university in ‘International Relations and Security Studies’. Fortunately, my dissertation was on the ‘Ethics and Philosophy of International Terrorism’, so in retrospect, the books and shows I read and watched while I was younger, helped me develop my sense of right and wrong that I live by to this day.

2) What inspired you to create your YouTube channel, ‘The Planet of Nerds’?
Simply put, Andy Signore inspired me because last year I somehow fell into helping him and Chris with Andy's channel, 'Popcorned Planet', and through that, became friends with them and eventually met Kev. This led to Chris, Kev, and I spending many nights on 'Zoom' together, chatting, playing games, watching movies, and that sort of thing, until one day we just thought, ‘What Andy does is so awesome we should do our own thing too’! Which we did, eventually, by forming, ‘The Planet of Nerds’. Or as I like to call it, a fun hobby that allows me to indulge in my interests and express who I really am.

3) In your own words, how would you describe your channel?   'The Planet of Nerds' is an 'intergalactic nerd network' and 'melting pot' for all things pop culturemovies, and gaming. So one day, you might see me ranting about a movie that my eyeballs completely disapproved of, while the next, you might see Chris flying planes over the pyramids of Cairo on 'Microsoft Flight Simulator'!

4) What song would you say best represents what you do and why?   I can’t speak for everybody on this one, but for me, personally, I would like to select a song by My Chemical Romance, entitled, ‘Planetary (Go!)’, because we’re not just mindless slaves to the mainstream media on our channel, as we’re free to break away and be ourselves, sounding off our opinions about movies, pop culture, gaming, etc, without fear or manipulation.

5) If you could get a celebrity – either living or dead – to promote your wares, who would you choose, and why would you want to choose this particular person?   I’d like to select Christian Bale because he’s a crazy head-case who rants like a total 'American Psycho'. Also, he played Batman, so that’s good too.

6) What have you learned about yourself through this endeavor?
I’ve always felt inferior because my outlook on movies and pop culture wasn’t as knowledgeable or as in-depth as many others (almost as if what I thought and said didn’t really matter and wasn’t of any great value). Well, if you watch any of my videos, you will see that I am not like everyone else and I don't say things in the same way they do. But over time, I gradually learned that this very ‘unique quality of mine (in how I communicate and express my own opinions), is my strength, not my weakness, as it shows that I am fearless and comfortable with just being me on camera.

And on that note, I would like to thank Stefania for telling us about her YouTube channel, 'The Planet of Nerds', before encouraging you to check it out as well as her Twitter and Instagram pages.
