STARS CRY - A NEW AGE POLITICAL PARABLE

Are you a fan of fast-paced, action-packed adventures full of political intrigue, emotional turmoil, and global conflict? Well, if so, then you might like to check out the following conversation I had with Igor Yashchenko about his comic book, 'Stars Cry'. Please enjoy.

1) What are your own origins, Igor?   I'm from Dnipro (a city in the Ukraine), and from a young age, I loved drawing pictures and reading comic books about superheroes and the wonderful world of fantasy. In fact, I loved reading and drawing so much, that one day I promised myself that I would make my own comics and tell my own awesome stories.

2) What inspired you to create, 'Stars Cry'?   In 2020, me and my friend, Alexey Nesmashny, formed our own comic book studio so we could create our first big project, 'Stars Cry', which is a story I have been working on for more than ten years.

3) In your own words, how would you describe this story?   'Stars Cry' is an exciting story full of action, love, and politics (inspired partly by my own experiences), where we see a young lad named Mark Shai try to find out why a group of extremists would want to destroy his native Neopolis and kill his family and friends. I mean, does it have something to do with his Dad being the Commander of the 'Internal Troops of the Earth'? Or does it have something to do with a much larger global conspiracy? Either way, pick up this book and brace yourself for the answer!

4) What song would you say best represents this comic and why?   Well, it's funny that you should ask this question because we've made our own soundtrack specially for 'Stars Cry'. So click here to check out the playlist or listen to the following video for the main theme.

5) If you could get a celebrity – either living or dead – to promote your wares, who would you choose, and why would you want to choose this particular person?   I would like to select Mark Hamill because he's an amazing actor/voice actor who's impressed me ever since I was a kid. 

6) What have you learned about yourself through this endeavor?   Since we started this project, both Alexey and myself have received a lot of support from our families and friends, so in retrospect, I'd say I learned that having some sort of support is very important because the problems of one can also be the problems of many. To a certain extent, our project has become a part of our families, both of our families, as it's something we've both been working on, 24/7, in order to make it epic.
