YOU CAN HELP HOMELESS VETERANS BY BUYING AN EXCLUSIVE COMIC

Junkyard Joe - CoverAccording to PolicyAdvice.net, there are approximately 552,830 homeless people living in America, and recently, data shows these figures will soon rise due to the increase in poverty, unemployment, substance abuse, poor mental health, and other issues of this nature. So, instead of watching these problems worsen by the day, someone has decided to fight back, the only way he knows how. Someone named, Geoff Johns, who's a prolific comic book writer that's previously worked on a number of major titles for DC Comics, such as 'Green Lantern', 'The Flash', and the 'Justice League'. But now, he's created a new comic called, 'Junkyard Joe', in order to raise funds for homeless veterans.

Forbidden planet

Geiger - Cover
Set in his acclaimed, 'Unnamed Universe', this comic book series focuses on a fictional world that's been devastated by the Unknown War, which in no time at all, left most of its inhabitants either dead or hiding underground due to the excess radiation. The titular character, Joe, made his first appearance in Geoff's previous comic book series, named 'Geiger', and by all accounts, is a violent robotic soldier, programmed to protect Americans and fight for the American way of life. Here's what Geoff said about the release:

Although the first issue of 'Junkyard Joe' is set in the middle of the Vietnam War and depicts graphic violence in the jungle, the majority of the story takes place today (in the present). Ultimately, it's a hopeful, fun, and action-packed comic book, which I think readers will be surprised by (that builds the next block of the Geigerverse)”.

Geoff and the artist who illustrated 'Junkyard Joe', Gary Frank, both have veterans in their respective families. So perhaps, the thought of their kin becoming homeless veterans caused these two to make this fun and thoughtful read. In October, 2022, they released a limited edition of 'Junkyard Joe' to raise money for charities associated with homeless veterans, and… and… well? Before I say too much, I think it's best if we hear more from the main man himself…

Junkyard Joe - Black and White
So, if you have the funds to spare and would like to help with this noble cause, then all you have to do is visit your local comic shop, or if you prefer, Image Comics' official website, and purchase the limited edition black-and-white issue of 'Junkyard Joe'. This comic will have a limited print run and feature a gorgeous old-school design that will look fantastic in anyone's collection, or alternatively, in a display case mounted on a wall.

All profits made from this comic will go to organizations that help homeless veterans. Help that includes identifying places for homeless veterans to live, providing help for people suffering from drug addiction or emotional health issues, and giving veterans the support needed so they can stand on their own two feet again.

The cool thing about all of this is that the very exclusive nature of the aforementioned comic book makes it an instant collector's item. But please note, pre-orders have already started and many fans have purchased the more expensive limited edition variant to help support the charities and hopefully invest in a comic that may be worth even more in the future.

If successful, this approach may inspire other comic book creators to develop unique fundraising adventures. Heck, if fans react well enough, Geoff and Gary may even be inspired to release more charitable works further down the line! Well, whatever the case may be, please stay tuned for more information about 'Junkyard Joe', as well as the other projects under Geoff Johns' wing.
