Name: Alan Scott / Alias: Green Lantern (Golden Age) / Created by: Martin Nodell and Bill Finger / First appearance: All-American Comics #16 / Cover date: July 1940

Who's this character based on? Allegedly, the American actor and film producer, Alan Ladd, who was born on the 3rd of September, 1913, and starred in many notable films throughout his career, including 'The Blue Dahlia' (1946), 'The Great Gatsby' (1949), and 'Shane' (1953). Alan died in 1964 by accidentally consuming a mixture of alcohol, a barbiturate, and two tranquilizers.


Hal and Paul


Name: Hal Jordan / Alias: Green Lantern (Silver Age) / Created by: John Broome and Gil Kane / First appearance: Showcase #22 / Cover date: October 1959

Who's this character based on? The American actor, film director, race car driver, and entrepreneur, Paul Newman, who was born on the 26th of January, 1925, and best known for starring in such classic films as 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof' (1958), 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid' (1969), and 'The Color of Money' (1986). Paul tragically died in 2008 from lung cancer.

The British and American actress, Elizabeth Taylor, who was born on the 27th of February, 1932, and was originally a child actress before growing up and starring in magnificent films like 'A Place in the Sun' (1951), 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof' (1958), and 'Cleopatra' (1963). Elizabeth died in 2011 from congestive heart failure.


Thal and David

Who's this character based on? The British actor, soldier, and novelist, David Niven, who was born on the 1st of March, 1910, and probably best known for starring in the films, 'A Matter of Life and Death' (1946), 'The Guns of Navarone' (1961), and 'The Pink Panther' (1963). David died in 1983 from motor neurone disease.


Guy and Martin

Who's this character based on? The American actor and radio host, Martin Milner, who was born on the 28th of December, 1931, and starred in the TV shows, 'Route 66' (1960 to 1964) and 'Adam-12' (1968 to 1975). Martin died in 2015 from heart failure.


John and Sidney

Who's this character based on? The Bahamian and American actor, film director, and diplomat, Sidney Poitier, who was born on the 20th of February, 1927, and was originally a stage actor until he was discovered by a Hollywood producer and starred in many memorable films, such as 'A Raisin in the Sun' (1961), 'Guess Who's Coming to Dinner' (1967), and 'In the Heat of the Night' (1967). Sidney died in 2022 from cardiopulmonary failure, with Alzheimer's disease and prostate cancer.
