VAMPIRE HUNTER STEVE - MY INTERVIEW WITH MICROWAVE RHEA

Vampire Hunter Steve - Title Quick question: What's the best way to turn on a microwave? Do you...? (A) Press the 'on' button. (B) Turn the knob. Or (C) Buy at least one issue of an ongoing comic book series about a reluctant teenage vampire hunter. Well, to find out, please check out the following interview I conducted with the author, Microwave Rhea, who's writing an ongoing comic book series about a reluctant teenage vampire hunter. Enjoy.

1) Name three words that best describe who you are.   I'd say, curious, devoted, and present.

2) What inspired you to create, 'Vampire Hunter Steve'?   I was inspired by the films I used to watch in the 1990s, especially 'The Lost Boys', 'Fright Night', as well as 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer', and in many ways, the story is my love letter to the great horror comedies of the late 20th century.

3) In your own words, how would you describe your story?   The story follows the exploits of a natural-born vampire killer named Steve Van Helsano, who's capable of eradicating droves of bloodsucking hellspawn who have descended upon the small town of Hell's Anus, USA. Problem is, Steve hates all of that monster-hunting sh*t, and just wants to be a normal American teenager and get the hell out of his crappy, vampire-infested hometown. But can he do this? Only time will tell.

4) What song would you say best represents 'Vampire Hunter Steve' and why?   To answer this question, I'd like to select a great song by Hall & Oates, 'You Make My Dreams'. After all, it's Steve's favorite song, keeping in mind that he's a yacht rock-loving, wannabe yuppie who can't get past his true calling... killing vampires.

5) If you could get a celebrity - either living or dead - to promote your wares, who would you choose, and why would you want to choose this particular person?   That would have to be the late, great, American actor, Vincent Price. If he liked the comic enough to promote it, then that would mean I could get the greatest horror voice of all time.

6) What's the one thing about 'Vampire Hunter Steve' that might surprise people?   I've written for a handful of animated TV shows, and the comic originally started as a TV pilot I wrote in my spare time.

'Vampire Hunter Steve' is an ongoing comic book series written by Microwave Rhea and illustrated by Ariel Iacci. For further information, please feel free to check out the official website, www.vampirehuntersteve.com.
