On June 24, 2026, TidalWave Comics released a new biographical comic book devoted to the life and career of Steven Spielberg, the multi-award-winning American filmmaker. Aptly titled, 'Fame: Steven Spielberg', the aforementioned comic book was written by me, David Lee Andrews, and illustrated by Elmo Rocko. Today, I will present a selection of tantalizing trivia I wasn't able to include, along with a few images from the comic. Please enjoy.
1) City of Stars: Steven and several notable actors were all born in the same city, including Roy Rogers, Doris Day, Julie Hagerty, and the silent film star, Theda Bara. The city is Cincinnati, and it's located in the American state of Ohio.
2) Then and Now: While working for Universal Studios at the start of his career, Steven was asked to give a tour to a special guest who had just sold the studio the film rights to one of his books. That guest was the American author, Michael Crichton, who worked with Steven years later on the sci-fi adventure, 'Jurassic Park' (1993).
3) Woof: Steven's dog, Elmer, briefly appeared in four of his films: 'The Sugarland Express' (1974), 'Jaws' (1975), 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' (1977), and '1941' (1979). But unfortunately, Elmer wasn't able to appear in any more films as he tragically passed away.
4) The Original Goon: 'The Goonies' (1985), a fun film directed by Richard Donner, features a group of kids based on Steven's childhood friends, whom he affectionately referred to as the 'goon squad'. Not only did Steven come up with the original story, but he also produced the film and directed at least one scene.
5) Lego of Me: Steven was the first living person to have a playable Lego mini-figure modeled after him. It was sold in the early 2000s and appeared in several sets associated with the Lego Studios product range.
6) Arise, Sir Steven, You Are a Star: Even though he is a non-British citizen and cannot use the title, in 2001, Steven was awarded an honorary KBE, Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire, by Queen Elizabeth II for his services to the British film industry. Roughly two years later, he was also awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It's located at 6801 Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, California.
7) EGOT a Lot: In 2026, Steven became the twenty-second person to achieve EGOT status. This means that he has received at least one prestigious award for his contributions to TV, music, film, and theater. For TV, he has won twelve Emmys for producing such shows as 'Tiny Toon Adventures' (1990 to 1992) and 'Band of Brothers' (2001). For music, he's received a Grammy Award for producing the musical documentary, 'Music by John Williams' (2024). For film, he has won three Oscars for directing classics like 'Schindler's List' (1993) and 'Saving Private Ryan' (1998). And for theater, he's received a Tony Award for producing the Broadway musical, 'A Strange Loop' (2022).
