THE TOP FIVE STYLISH SUPERHEROES OUT-OF-COSTUME

paul gambi dc comicsUsually, most superheroes dress-up in some sort of kick-ass costume that incorporates body-armor, tight-fitting spandex, and a nicely-shaped cape, complemented by a bold range of colors and a memorable insignia. But, when they’re not off fighting crime, what do they wear then? Well, to find out, please check out the following rundown that features the top five stylish superheroes out-of-costume...

Daredevil
5) Daredevil

Even though he’s a blind man that comes from a somewhat sterile profession, Matt Murdock, a.k.a. The Man Without Fear, is still partial to wearing smart looking three-piece suits with a simple selection of colors and prints. Well, according to Stephanie Maslansky, a costume designer, this is because he can’t see and needs to make sure that whatever he pulls out of the wardrobe will somehow match up. She also revealed that the majority of his suits come from Paul Smith, a popular designer, as they perfectly fit his frame.

Murdock does mix it up when it comes down to his men’s shirts, though, and generally prefers wearing textured Oxford cloth button-down shirts, which gives him a more ruffled look compared to richer superheroes, like Tony Stark and Bruce Wayne. His oval sunglasses finish off his outfits with a touch of style too.

Batman
4) Batman

Being the wealthiest man in Gotham City, doesn't necessarily mean that Bruce Wayne, a.k.a. The Caped Crusader, shouldn't dress for success. Heck, in the 2008 film, 'The Dark Knight', he unleashes his rich playboy persona by donning a Giorgio Armani made-to-measure suit. A suit, which the designer reveals, demonstrates his status as a “discriminating and sophisticated connoisseur of fine fashion, while also showing he has an individual taste”.

Similar to Matt, Bruce also appears to be more comfortable when he's wearing tinted-shades that match the tone of his iconic bat-suit, such as a charcoal-grey or a midnight-blue. But unlike Murdock, Wayne favors wearing wayfarer sunglasses because they’re suave, sophisticated, and fits his more conservative image.

black widow
3) Black Widow

Let’s face it, Natasha Romanoff, a.k.a. The Black Widow, would look good wearing a paper bag. But even so, she still tries to look her best regardless of the situation. For instance, in the 2014 film,  'Captain America: The Winter Soldier', she puts on a sleek leather blazer, black pants, and knee-high boots, in order to carry out her off-duty errands. Whereas in other scenes, she sports pencil skirts, tall stiletto pumps, and button-down blouses, all of which are well-fitted and matches her style.

Natasha also knows how to color coordinate her clothing, which is particularly apparent during her meeting with Captain America and Pepper Potts in ‘Iron Man 2’, where she shows up wearing a fitted red dress, red lips, and glossy red hair

iron man
2) Iron Man

Just like Bruce Wayne before him, Tony Stark, a.k.a. The Metallic Avenger, is a rich industrialist who chooses to go out wearing the same colors associated with his costume, red and gold, and in large part, isn't afraid of accessorizing either. From expensive watches, to smart inventions, to loud aviator sunglasses, all in all, Tony likes to spend his cash on accessories as well as apparel

Now, to see what I mean, just take a look at what he’s got on when attending a Senate hearing in ‘Iron Man 2’ (see picture provided), because this just illustrates that Tony isn’t shy to show people who he is and what he represents. A rebel that stands up against the system in a stylish and debonair fashion.

black panther
1) Black Panther

At the top of our list is none other than the Nubian Knight himself, T’Challa, largely due to his outfits being based on traditional attire that generally stands out from the crowd. For his 2018 film, most of his wardrobe was designed by Ruth E. Carter,  and she said that she based his look on 18th-century designs, complete with embroidered panels which resemble a Nigerian style.

All of this can be clearly seen throughout the entire movie, when T’Challa is either draped in a royal or a military style, ranging from a magnificent looking black and grey embroidered jacket, a pair of sandals modified from Alexander McQueen’s shoes, a white embroidered tunic, crafted with patterns that represent cultures from around the world, as well as a colorful print silk scarf designed by Wale Oyéjidé, named, “From Wakanda, With Love’.

So, there you have it, folks. My selection of the top five best-dressed superheroes out-of-costume. So what do you think, dear reader? Do you agree with my selection or would you rather have added others instead? Either way, please feel free to leave your thoughts in the comment section below.
