THE LOONEY TUNES GANG HAVE COME TO MANCHESTER

Hey, folks! Have you heard the news that our favorite Looney Tunes characters are back in action! But this time, they're a part of a vibrant, outdoor art trail that covers twelve different locations throughout the city of Manchester, including places like...

1) Spinningfields

Fun Fact: Even though Speedy Gonzales made his first, brief appearance in a seven-minute short originally screened in 1953, entitled, 'Cat-Tails for Two', it was largely in name and super speed only, and he wasn't seen properly until two years later (in 1955), when Friz Freleng and Hawley Pratt updated his initial design for another short, aptly titled, 'Speedy Gonzales'.

2) Deansgate Square 

Fun Fact: The first Looney Tunes character was created in May, 1929, and he was sort of a 'humanoid version' of Mickey Mouse that wore a hat and sported a falsetto voice. The character was christened Bosko, and he was fairly popular throughout the 1930s.

3) First Street 

Fun Fact: It was once suggested that the creation of the Tasmanian Devil was inspired by a legendary Hollywood actor originally from Tasmania. Namely, Errol Flynn, and he's probably best known for playing Robin Hood on the silver screen. 

4) Circle Square 

Fun Fact: Wile E. Coyote was partly modeled after a character featured in a book written by Mark Twain in 1872. The book's called, 'Roughing It', and according to Twain, his character is 'a long, slim, sick and sorry-looking skeleton' that is 'a living, breathing allegory of Want. He is always hungry'. 

5) Canal Street

Fun Fact: Between 1940 and 1964, Bugs Bunny starred in more than 160 animated shorts, and has since gone on to star in feature films, compilation films, TV series, music records, comics, video games, award shows, amusement park rides, a variety of different commercials, and now, an art trail in Manchester.

6) 111 Piccadilly 

Fun Fact: Despite having a small body and a high-pitched effeminate voice, Tweety is in fact a male, not a female, and he was partly based on a character portrayed by the comedian, Red Skelton, called Junior the Mean Widdle Kid.

7) The Pen and Pencil

Fun Fact: When Friz Freleng first created Porky Pig, he decided to name him after two brothers he once went to school with. Two brothers called Porky and Piggy, which were their nicknames.

8) Common (left side) 

Fun Fact: At face value, the design of Marvin the Martian's costume looks fairly out of place for a world-conquering alien. But upon closer inspection, you'll notice that he's wearing armor similar to the armor worn by the Roman God of War, Mars.

9) Common (right side)

Fun Fact: Lola Bunny made her debut in the 1996 live-action animated adventure, 'Space Jam', which will soon be getting a sequel in July, 2021.

10) Primark

Fun Fact: From 1940 to 1989, Bugs Bunny was voiced by the legendary voice artist, Mel Blanc, who also voiced a number of other animated greats as well, such as Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Tweety, Sylvester the Cat, Foghorn Leghorn, and many, many more!

11) Exchange Square (tram stop)

Fun Fact: Daffy Duck's full name is Daffy Dumas Horacio Tiberius Armando Sheldon Duck, and he made his earliest appearance in a Porky Pig cartoon first shown in 1937, entitled, 'Porky's Duck Hunt'.

12) Printworks 

Fun Fact: The name, Looney Tunes, was inspired by the title of an animated series of musicals produced by Walt Disney called Silly Symphonies.

About the Artist: This trail was designed by the street artist, Captain Kris, who along with the street art collective, Blank Walls, made it as vibrant and as interactive as possible. Captain Kris usually works with bright, vivid, colors, and he was able to bring these characters to life through imaginative designs and poses.
