BLUE PLAQUES - ACTORS WHO'VE LIVED IN CAMDEN

CamdenThe first blue plaque was erected in London in 1867, and since then, many, many more have been placed throughout the UK in order to commemorate a link between said location and a famous person, event, or building that existed within the vicinity. Today, we've come to Camden, situated in Inner London, where we can discover a blue plaque for each of the following celebrities.

Born: November 10, 1925, in Pontrhydyfen, Wales
Died: August 5, 1984, in Céligny, Switzerland (aged 58)
Some of their notable films: Cleopatra (1963), Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966), and Where Eagles Dare (1968)

Lived here from 1949 to 1956
Trivia: Richard Burton rose to fame as a Shakespearean actor while living on Lyndhurst Road with his first wife, Sybil Williams. This led to his first Hollywood film role, playing Philip in the 1952 drama, 'My Cousin Rachel', which also gave him his first Academy Award nomination.

Died: December 15, 1962, in Hollywood, California, USA (aged 63)
Some of their notable films: Mutiny on the Bounty (1935), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939), and Witness for the Prosecution (1957)

Trivia: In the three years he was living in Fitzrovia, Charles Laughton married his lifelong companion, Elsa Lanchester, and performed a number of notable plays on stage. This includes playing the lead role of Harry Hegan in the 1928 Seán O'Casey play, 'The Silver Tassie', as well as Samuel Pickwick in a 1928 theatrical adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic, 'The Pickwick Papers'.

Born: April 9, 1898, in Princeton, New Jersey, USA
Died: January 23, 1976, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA (aged 77)
Some of their notable films: Body and Soul (1925), The Emperor Jones (1933), and Show Boat (1936)

Lived here from 1929 to 1930
Trivia: During his time in London, Paul Robeson bought a home in Hampstead and received some critical acclaim by performing in 'Othello' at the Savoy Theatre, which in turn, made him the first black actor to play the title role on the West End stage since 1860.

Trivia: Alastair Sim had a fairly guarded home life while living with his family in Hampstead. In fact, he guarded his privacy so much, that he rarely gave press interviews and refused to sign autographs. According to Alastair, the public's interest in him should be solely confined to his stage or screen performances and nothing else.
