SUPER TRASH CLASH - MY INTERVIEW WITH EDGAR CAMACHO

Super Trash Clash - CoverLast week, the team over at Top Shelf Productions kindly allowed me to share several pages from their 96-page graphic novel, 'Super Trash Clash'. But if you missed this excerpt, don't worry, because you can check it out by clicking here. Otherwise, you can just go with the flow and dive into the following Q and A with the creator of the aforementioned graphic novel, Edgar Camacho.

Forbidden planet

Super Trash Clash - 1
1) Name three words that best describe who you are.   I'd say, determined, loyal, and patient.

2) What inspired you to create, 'Super Trash Clash'?   I was inspired by a true story that happened to me and my brothers when we were growing up in the mid-1990s. Basically, my mom bought us a game, which was not the one we wanted, and so we went and traded it for another.

3) In your own words, how would you describe this story?   It's a story of nostalgia, of growing up, and of the relationship we have with our parents. All that, plus it also has many references to the video game culture of my childhood.

4) What song would you say best represents this graphic novel?   Even though there are many songs I could link to 'Super Trash Clash', I think the most appropriate one would be 'The World Warrior' from the popular fighting game, 'Street Fighter II'. Well, either that, or 'Time Traveling' from the educational game, 'Mario's Time Machine'.

5) If you could get a celebrity - either living or dead - to promote your wares, who would you choose, and why would you want to choose this particular person?   Here in Mexico, during the 1990s, there was a man named Gus Rodriguez, who was the editor of 'Club Nintendo' magazine (like 'Nintendo Power' in the USA) and partly responsible for many Mexican children being Nintendo children. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2020, but since my story is very focused on that specific period of time (and with all of the video game stuff), it would have been great if he spoke and promoted my work.

6) What's the one thing about 'Super Trash Clash' that might surprise people?   Well, if we look past all of the video game vibes, the references, and the nostalgia, I'd say the true essence of my story lies within human relationships and how we deal with them.

'Super Trash Clash' is a 96-page graphic novel published by Top Shelf Productions and written and illustrated by Edgar Camacho. It was released on the 29th of November, 2022, and it costs $14.99.
