So what’s the STORY
morning glory?
'Aftermath' is a tale which reminds me of a blind, deaf, and
clownish monkey with concussion. It's amusing to look at, but arduous to
follow.
You see, at the moment, the head-honcho of the 'Suicide'
Squad', Amanda Waller, is feeling very emotional about her team. She is pissed
off with Harley because she has had to fix her up, and owes a lot of favors due
to her actions. She's concerned with El Diablo because he is a religious nut. She tolerates King Shark and Light, because they
are both very weird characters indeed. She is happy that Black Spider is back
on his feet again, because she seems to like him. Plus she is bemused with Deadshot and
Savant, because, well, why not?
However, what Amanda isn't emotional about at the moment, is
something that she does not even know. One of her team is a secret Basilisk agent,
who has joined her squad with one thing on their mind - Kill Amanda Waller.
Maybe this person will commit this deed when they all have
to head off and capture Resurrection Man, huh?
As soon as Harley came out of her coma and said 'Jumpin Jillikers', it brought me right back to that camp 'Batman and Robin'
television show from the sixties. As well as Milhouse from 'The Simpson's' of
course.
Isn't it great that comic's can reference the media?
What was the BEST
thing about this issue?
This issue was a blast. I loved the way that it acted as a
two stand-story, but with neither stand actually interacting with each other
until the final page. Moreover, Floyd is going to get his moustache back,
YESSSS!!! All they have to do now is die his hair brunette.
What was the WORST
thing about this issue?
Amanda Waller has always been bossy. Amanda Waller has
always been opinionated. But what Amanda Waller hasn't been, unless she has to,
is to take a risk for no apparent reason what so ever. I am of course referring
to her ordering the doctor to resuscitate Harley post haste, as if there was
some sort of urgency to bringing her back as soon as possible.
OK, I know that this is a very small gripe all in all. And
most probably one I'll regret as soon as I read next issue. Still, it's there,
and needs to be said. I think.
What was the most
CREATIVE thing about this issue?
STORY: Creatively, this issue had a lot going for it.
Firstly, the back and forth plot line which I mentioned previously was very
well executed. Secondly, I did like the overall feel and pace of the story,
very bold and pithy. And thirdly, the conceptual 'squad in review' premise,
worked very well in conjunction with 'who is the traitor' sub-plot.
ART: Ferderico
Dallochio did a very nice job on this book. I especially liked how the initial
'Harley scene' was cinematically and tastefully composed, as well as how the
'flashback segments' were all tinged with a purple hue. Very alternate.
BEARED BASILISK AGENT: To me, when this dodgy looking chap reared
his beaded head, he reminded me of Greg Grunberg of 'Heroes' fame - with a beard.
THE WEAK DOCTOR: Well, in a round about way, doesn't she
look a bit like Marisa Tomei? Hey! That rhymed! So I must be right! Ha!
If this issue had a
MOVIE TAG LINE, what would it be?
The Suicide Squad In Review Is Like Waiting For God. Sooner Or
Later Someone Is Going To Get Shot.
If this issue were a MOVIE,
an OBJECT, or a piece of MUSIC, what would that be and why?
Mainly because of the pithy pace of this piece, plus the
precursor of problems upon the plane, all I can think of is the Nat King Cole
song 'Let's Face The Music And Dance'.
Well, can't you see trouble ahead?
FINAL thoughts...
So next issue is a cross-over issue with Resurrection Man. Hmmm. Let's just hope that this team snatches Mitch from his book before it
takes a nose dive, huh? So that he can then help wean out the traitor before it's
too late. Personally speaking, I hope the traitor is Savant, because he is a
bit of a prick. But if I had a second choices, I would surmise that Black Spider
could also be another possible candidate, because Amanda likes him.
What do you guys think? Spam me for some love.
