Between 1942 and 1950, the noted author, Isaac Asimov, wrote a series of short stories which were collected together and then bound into three separate volumes: 'Foundation', was the name of the first volume, 'Foundation and Empire', was the name given to volume two, and 'Second Foundation', was the third volume's title. Collectively, however, and all three volumes were christened, 'The Foundation Trilogy', which eventually gave birth to two sequels, two prequels, a show on Apple TV, as well as a three-volume set published by The Folio Society.
So what's 'The Foundation Trilogy' all about? Well, in fairly broad terms, it's a long and expansive sci-fi adventure about a mathematician who finds a way of predicting the future and then discovers an upcoming disaster. So, to prevent this from happening, he decides to establish two foundations in order to preserve the spirit of science and civilization.
Who's Isaac Asimov? Isaac Asimov was a professor of biochemistry at Boston University, but he's probably best known for writing books based on science fiction and popular science. He was born in Petrovichi, Russia, on the 2nd of January, 1920, and he died in Manhattan, New York, on the 6th of April, 1992.
What can you tell us about The Folio Society's edition of 'The Foundation Trilogy'? Well, along with Isaac's original story, this three-volume collection comes with an introduction and a series of pictures. The introduction was written by Paul Krugman, who's a professor of Economics and International Affairs at Princeton University as well as a recipient of the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences. While the pictures, on the other hand, were illustrated by Alex Wells, who's managed to illustrate 21 drawings in total, all of which, beautifully capture Asimov's multi-layered storyline. Alex was also responsible for designing the three unified covers and the blocked slipcase that comes with this collection. Here, check out the following images for a sneak peek…
