UNDISPUTED - MY INTERVIEW WITH P.J. CURLING

1) Name three words that best describe who you are.   I really have no idea how to answer that. I've come up with a few constellations of this answer, and 'writer' is the only word that showed up consistently.

2) What inspired you to create, 'Undisputed'?   Back in June, 2024, I was licking my wounds after a failed Kickstarter campaign for 'Taking Out the Dead', and just to get back into being creative, I started working on this idea, 'write an 80s straight to VHS action movie, but with luchadores'. Then I started looking around pro wrestling and picked up on ideas like Major League Wrestling's Opera Cup, the Dario Cueto storyline from 'Lucha Underground', and I started watching a lot of CMLL and NJPW shows online. 'Undisputed' has me watching more wrestling than I have in a long time. It has reignited my love of the sport, and I hope that my love and respect for pro wrestling comes through the pages.

3) In your own words, how would you describe this story?   It's about a grizzled old veteran fighter who wants to lead a quiet life, and an evil promoter who wants him to come back for one night only.

4) What song would you say best represents this comic and why?   The 'Numb/Encore' mash-up by Jay-Z and Linkin Park, because it's a song about someone who fought their way to the top, left, and then came back, still on top.

5) If you could get a celebrity - either living or dead - to promote your wares, who would you choose, and why would you want to choose this particular person?   Paul Heyman, because he knows how to sell a product to wrestling fans, and as much as I want comic book readers to enjoy 'Undisputed', I also want wrestling fans to enjoy it as well.

6) What's the one thing about 'Undisputed' that might surprise people?   It's actually about pro wrestling. It's not a story that happens in a pro wrestling universe. This is a story that could happen in an actual pro wrestling promotion.
