One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - Hospital
Oregon State Hospital, 2600 Center Street NE, Salem, Oregon, USA
(Oregon State Mental Hospital)

When the film begins, we're introduced to the felon, Randle Patrick McMurphy (as played by Jack Nicholson), while he's being admitted into a mental hospital. At first, no one is sure if Randle (or R.P. to his friends) is genuinely ill. But soon enough, one of the nurses who's assigned to look after him, Nurse Ratched (as played by Louise Fletcher), suspects that he's feigning his condition so he can avoid all of the crimes he's been charged with. In reality, this mental hospital is an actual psychiatric hospital, the Oregon State Hospital, and it was established in 1883 and is still in operation. The hospital was modernized between 2008 and 2013, and now a part of it is reserved for the Museum of Mental Health, which exhibits a selection of photos and some of the props from the film.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - Bus
Goodwill (Parking Lot), 585 Edgewater Street NW, Salem, Oregon, USA
(Trailer Park)

During his clinical assessment, Randle becomes friendly with some of the patients on his ward, including Martini, Billy, and the Chief (as played by Danny DeVito, Brad Dourif, and Will Sampson respectively). In fact, they become so friendly, that he manages to persuade a group of them to leave the mental hospital and go on a trip with him. In order to do this, though, they first steal a bus and then drive it all the way to their intended destination (see the next film location for the details 👇). But before they arrive, Randle picks up his girlfriend, Candy (as played by Marya Small), at a nearby trailer park. Today, this trailer park is a parking lot for a Goodwill store in Salem, which by all accounts, is normally fairly busy (click here to see what it currently looks like).

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - Harbor
Depoe Bay, Oregon, USA
(Harbor)

Once he picks up his girlfriend, Randle and his pals head to a local harbor so they can charter a boat for some fishing. The harbor in question is located at Depoe Bay, Oregon, which according to certain sources, is 'the world's smallest navigable harbor'. Certain sources also claim that a few of the following scenes depicting the guys fishing in the sea were shot elsewhere, namely, Fort Bragg, California.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - Mountain Range
Cascade Range, North America, USA and Canada
(Mountain Range)

When the film finishes, we're presented with a serene backdrop featuring a picturesque mountain range. This mountain range is said to be part of the Cascade Range (otherwise known as the Cascades), which extends from southern British Columbia through Washington and Oregon to Northern California. It was also featured in several other films, such as 'Fool's Gold' (1919), 'Lost Horizon' (1973), and 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' (1981).
