1) Name three words that best describe who you are. I'd say, dad, humanitarian, and creator. That may sound cheesy, but I spend most of my free time on dad duty, I make a living as a humanitarian, and whatever time I have left, I like to create things.
2) What inspired you to create your illustrated adventure, 'Loveland'? While driving from Boston to New York to pitch a monster movie that ultimately went nowhere, I noticed a sign on the side of the road with the words 'Electric Blue' printed on it. Coincidentally, I saw this sign when the song 'Electric Blue' was playing on the radio, and found myself thinking about the bizarre power of pop music. The idea then grew from there.
3) In your own words, how would you describe your story? It's a sci-fi-horror-romance about how two long-separated high school sweethearts and an interdimensional space cop band together to stop an ancient evil from destroying humanity, including the sweethearts' hometown of Loveland, Ohio. It's also a story about second chances, featuring time machines, Cthulhu monsters, zombies, and an indestructible Sasquatch. At its core, though, it's an adventure centered on two people trying to figure out their lives after experiencing personal and professional failures.
4) What song would you say best represents 'Loveland' and why? Since 'Loveland' is peppered with music, I created a soundtrack that complements it (click here to check that out). But if I had to select a single song, it would have to be 'It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)' by R.E.M. because it's pivotal to the plot.
5) If you could get a celebrity - either living or dead - to promote your wares, who would you choose, and why would you want to choose this particular person? I know this may sound somewhat calculating, given his current position as co-chairman of DC Studios, but I've been a huge James Gunn fan for years, dating back to when he made movies like 'Slither' and 'Super'. So, having his endorsement would mean a lot.
6) What's the one thing about 'Loveland' that might surprise people? I think the most surprising thing about my story would be its mixture of tones. Overall, it's a story filled with mind-bending 'Rick and Morty' style off-the-wall cosmic sci-fi concepts, grounded with the heart of a Cameron Crowe movie from the 1990s.
'Loveland' is a three-part limited comic book series written by Timothy Pitoniak and illustrated by Katie Pinch (a collected edition will be released in spring).
