ROAD TRIP FILMS WHERE WOMEN DO THE DRIVING

Thelma & Louise
Two women driving a car may seem like a total nightmare to someone like Jeremy Clarkson, yet to the rest of the movie going world, no, no it's not. Over the years we've seen a plethora of delectable dames driving from coast to coast all over the big screen. So, to celebrate this... errr... momentous achievement... yeah... check this out.

All Roads Lead to Rome (2015)

What do you get if you take two ladies from New York, one an uptight single mother, the other her delinquent daughter, and just plonk them down in a picturesque Tuscan village, situated somewhere in Rome? Why yes. That's correct, my friends. You get 'All Roads Lead to Rome': The first rom-com Sarah Jessica Parker has made in over five years. Not only does it star our Jess though, it also stars Rosie Day (the delinquent daughter), Raoul Bova (the Tuscan ex-boyfriend who bumps into Jess and her daughter), plus Claudia Cardinale (Mom of ex-boyfriend, friend of delinquent daughter, and match-maker for our Jess). In addition to this, you get a very nice looking road trip movie too.

Tammy (2014)

What would you do if you lost your job and then found your cheating husband having a romantic meal with your next door neighbor? No! Leave the kitchen knives alone!!! What you should do is what Melissa McCarthy's character does in the film 'Tammy'. Pack your bags and go directly to your parent’s house -- only to then be denied the use of your mom's car to drive to Niagara Falls with. Thankfully, your Grandma Pearl (Sarandon) can help you out, and the both of you go on a road trip together involving love, robbing a restaurant, getting sent to jail, and, you know, the usual stuff.

Wild (2014)

Simply put, this film proves that all road trips don't have to take place in a car or an over-sized tour bus to render moments of grand self-discovery. After a series of unfortunate events, Cheryl Strayed (as played by Reese Witherspoon) goes down a dark path of reckless and destructive behavior, resulting in her deciding to snap out of it by embarking down a different path -- located at the Pacific Crest Trail -- which involves an enormous 1,100 mile trek, completely alone. Ouch!

Eat Pray Love (2010)

If you ever decide to leave your loveless marriage and soulless career behind you, please, for the love of peas, try to remember what 'Eat Prey Love' eventually taught us! It taught us that Julia Roberts is an amazing actress (Yeah! Like we needed to know that), plus that travel is able to broaden both the soul and the mind! For instance, in Italy you can learn the local language and a love of food. In India, you can go to an ashram and meet a yogi who teaches you spiritual peace. And finally in Bali, you can discover the meaning of true love.

Crossroads (2002)

'Hello Mister Producer sir', said Britney Spears, 'I was wondering if you'd allow me to make a film for your company? Of course I would be its main star, and a group of my provocatively dressed friends could be my co-stars. The film could be about us driving a car and getting ourselves into all sorts of mischief!'. 'Sure', said the producer, 'But only if one of you is a model student, one of you is a prom queen already engaged to her boyfriend, and the other one is some sort of pregnant nutter'. And so, it came to pass, that Britney Spears, Zoe Saldana, and Taryn Manning, all starred in the film, 'Crossroads', and we all followed these three childhood friends as they..... ZZZZzzzzzz.

Spice World (1997)

Say hello to The Spice Girls, a ragtag group of British... coff-coff... 'singers', who travel around London in their double-decker tour bus, with the intent of performing their biggest gig yet -- a live performance at the Royal Albert Hall. Along the way they'll encounter a selfish newspaper mogul, his photographer, a crazy film director, two Hollywood writers who pitch them absurd ideas, as well as a manager that refuses to let them rest. Cor' Blimey!

Thelma & Louise (1991)

Less a road trip and more a cross country chase, 'Thelma & Louise' is a story of true friendship between two women. No! Not like that, you dirty sod! What type of site do you think I'm running here? Basically, this film is about a waitress (played by Susan Sarandon) and a submissive housewife (played by the other one) who find themselves with two men not always to their liking. So, one day, they both utter those immortal words, 'Road Trip', only to find themselves on the run from the police after killing a man in self-defense.

ALL ROADS LEAD TO ROME arrived on digital platforms on the 8th of February, 2016, and on DVD from the 29th of February, 2016, courtesy of Signature Entertainment.
