ANUBIS: DOG OF DEATH - OR SHOULD THAT BE, GOD OF DEATH?

Anubis - CoverMany, many years ago, in ancient Egypt, there lived a God named Anubis who was extremely powerful and very, very cruel. In fact, he was so cruel, that he eventually lost his believers and his abilities. Now, he’s starring in a fun and feisty comic book written by Sindre Finnoy, which is currently kicking ass on Kickstarter. Want to know more? Then please feel free to check out our conversation inscribed below. Enjoy.

1) What are your own origins, Sindre?   I'm the writer of the indie comic book series, 'Anubis: Dog of Death', which is drawn by John Barry Ballaran. I've been writing articles on my blog sindrelf.com for a few years now, but this comic is my first really big writing project. We had a successful Kickstarter campaign for a print of the first issue in February, 2020, and we are now trying to Kickstart the second issue.

2) What inspired you to create, ‘Anubis: Dog of Death’?
I first had the idea of Anubis The Dog as the villain of a 'Doctor Who' fanfic I was thinking about writing, but decided that he was too interesting of a character to not be the protagonist of his own story. The story idea naturally evolved accordingly when I made Anubis the main character.

3) In your own words, how would you describe this story?   Anubis: Dog of Death’ is an action-comedy comic book series about the Egyptian God, Anubis. After having lost most of his believers, he now exists as a tiny purse dog in modern-day LA. In the 2nd issue, Anubis has to join his new owner, Chloe, for an audition at a Hollywood film studio. There he meets a Goddess from a different pantheon from his own, and discovers an opportunity to escape from captivity.

4) If you could get a celebrity – either living or dead – to promote your wares, who would you choose, and why would you want to choose this particular person?   I guess I should pick someone who's relevant to the topic, so Cleopatra would be quite good.

5) What song would you say best represents this comic and why?   ‘Who Let The Dogs Out’ by the Baha Men.

6) What have you learned about yourself through this endeavor?   In my youth, like now, I had a lot of ideas for things I wanted to create. But I would always get distracted, or I would not be willing to put in the time to do something properly. It is just now in recent years that I have been able to put my head down and work on my projects to completion. The instinct is still to abandon everything that takes time and effort, but I have learned that sticking with it really does pay off.

And on that note, I would like to thank Sindre for telling us about his comic book, ‘Anubis: Dog of Death’, before encouraging you to check out his Kickstarter campaign as well as his and John’s Twitter pages.
