TWO GREAT YOUTUBE CHANNELS DEDICATED TO THE LEGENDARY COMEDIAN, JERRY LEWIS

Jerry Lewis ArtDid you know that the late, great, Dean Martin, would often utter the muddled catchphrase, 'Give the chance a kid', whenever he would appear on his vintage variety show, 'The Colgate Comedy Hour'? No. Wait a minute! Dean Martin never said that! But rather, it was his equally jovial partner, Jerry, Jerry Lewis, who also happens to be the inspiration behind two magnificent YouTube channels created by my good friend, Kayley. Here, check this out to learn more…

1) What are your own origins, Kayley?   I'm a dancer, a dance teacher, and a choreographer from Peoria, Arizona, who's also a big film fan and a DJ for an online radio station, named, 'Modern Retro Radio'.

2) What inspired you to create your two YouTube channels
?   I created my YouTube channels, 'Givethechanceakid' and 'Donazify', because I wanted to share my Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin collection as none of it was previously online. At first, I had a fairly small collection, but over time it started to grow, just like the number of people who decided to follow my channels.

3) In your own words, how would you describe your channels?   'Donazify' was the first channel I created and it's normally where I post a lot of shows and rare footage of Jerry Lewis in action. My second channel, on the other hand, 'Givethechanceakid', mainly consists of documentaries and interviews related to Jerry and his projects. I've also started posting discussions between myself and other people who are fans of Jerry (generally, discussions about various aspects of Jerry's life and career), and when I can, I co-host episodes of 'The Total Film-Critic', where me and my friends talk about our favorite films (either made by Jerry or someone else we like).

4) What are your top five Jerry Lewis films?   Now, off the top of my head, I'd say…
  1. 'Rock-a-Bye Baby' (1958), which was the film that made me a Jerry Lewis fan and is currently tied for my top film of all time.
  2. 'The Nutty Professor' (1963), which is an iconic comedy and just so different from any other made before or since.
  3. 'The Geisha Boy' (1958), which is a sweet movie, and much like 'Rock-a-Bye Baby', deals with Jerry's fatherly relationship with a little boy.
  4. 'Who's Minding the Store?' (1963), which in my opinion is one of his funniest films because it’s full of hilarious sequences that get better and better and better.
  5. 'The Stooge' (1952), which I think is Jerry's best film with Dean Martin, because even though it's more of a dramedy than a full-on comedy, it showed what they were capable of with a more dramatic script.

5) Have you had any interaction with anyone associated with the Jerry Lewis estate?
Yes, I was contacted by Jerry Lewis's granddaughter, Morgan, who told me to remove all of the photos I've posted of her grandfather on Tumblr, Facebook, etc., otherwise, she was going to take legal action against me. The strange thing about this situation, though, is that these photos were largely old home movie parodies (originally published in magazines) that other people have also shared since. So, taking into account that she isn't legally in charge of Jerry's estate, I told her that she didn't own these photos and swiftly blocked her (never to hear from her again).

6) What have you learned about yourself through this endeavor?   Well, not only have I been able to meet new people and gain good friends, but I've also grown as a person by listening to advice given by Jerry in his interviews. So, in many ways, being a fan has also influenced me as an artist, a choreographer, and a filmmaker (which is another string to my bow).

And on that note, I'd like to thank Kayley for telling us about her two YouTube channels dedicated to Jerry Lewis, before encouraging you to check them out as well as her Facebook, Instagram, Freeforum, and Tumblr pages.
