TIDALWAVE TRIVIA: A SPOTLIGHT ON TOM CRUISE

On July 1, 2026, TidalWave Comics released a new biographical comic book devoted to the life and career of Tom Cruise, the American actor and film producer. Aptly titled, 'Fame: Tom Cruise', the aforementioned comic book was written by me, David Lee Andrews, and illustrated by Diego Magno. Today, I will present a selection of tantalizing trivia I wasn't able to include, along with a few images from the comic. Please enjoy.





1) City of Stars: Tom and several other actors were all born in the same city, including Bobcat Goldthwait, Rory Cochrane, and Tom Kenny. The city is Syracuse, and it's located in the American state of New York.

2) Ouch: According to Tom, he decided to take up acting after losing his place on the high school wrestling team due to a knee injury.

3) Three for Three: Tom's three marriages share an eerie mathematical pattern. Not only were his ex-wives born roughly eleven years apart, as Mimi Rogers was born in 1956, Nicole Kidman was born in 1967, and Katie Holmes was born in 1978, but stranger still, their relationships ended when each woman was thirty-three years old.

4) Hollywood Shuffle: In October 1986, Tom was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It's located at 6912 Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, California.

5) Nice Lad: Even though he won't allow his likeness to be used in video games or on action figures, Tom was the visual inspiration for the titular character in the Disney animated adventure, 'Aladdin' (1992).

6) Show me the Money: Tom was the first actor in history to star in five consecutive films that grossed $100 million in the United States. These films are 'A Few Good Men' (1992), 'The Firm' (1993), 'Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles' (1994), 'Mission: Impossible' (1996), and 'Jerry Maguire' (1996).

7) Irish Roots: On April 3, 2013, the Irish government presented Tom with a Certificate of Irish Heritage, celebrating a lineage that stretches back for over eight hundred and forty years. Between 1169 and 1176, his ancestors were knights in the first wave of the Anglo-Norman invasion, arriving alongside the Norman lord Strongbow, and by the early 1200s, the de Cruise family became Irish barons, holding land from the king. Tom is a direct descendant of Sir Maurice Cruys, a knight who died in 1216, whose family held significant estates over the years. Among their historic holdings were Hollywood in North County Dublin and the lands in Meath, where the civil parish of Cruicetown in Nobber was named after them and still bears their family surname.
